Remodel Debris Removal and Renovation Cleanup
A kitchen tear-out fills more space than anyone expects. Cabinets, countertop, a wall of drywall, a stack of old subfloor. We pick it up from the driveway, the garage or the room itself, set aside what can be reused, and haul the rest. Knoxville Elite Hauling provides remodel debris removal to Knoxville and surrounding Tennessee cities, including Farragut, Maryville, Powell, Karns, Lenoir City and Louisville.
Most renovation cleanup ends at a paid site. The free county centers turn away shingles, brick and concrete, and they don't let contractors in at all. If the job is a whole outbuilding instead of a remodel, see shed removal. Stores and offices can read about after-hours work on our commercial junk removal page. We haul from plenty of remodels in Karns and Lenoir City.
When a Hauler Beats a Dumpster
A dumpster makes sense for a long job with steady debris. For a lot of remodels, one or two trailer loads cost less and leave nothing parked on the lawn. A hauler wins when:
- Debris comes in bursts: a tear-out on Monday, then nothing until the tile goes in.
- There's no room for a box: steep driveways, narrow streets in Fourth and Gill, or HOA rules.
- Nobody wants to load it: our crew carries it out, so your team keeps working.
- The county won't take it: shingles, brick and concrete are not accepted at convenience centers, from anyone.
- The load has to be legal: T.C.A. § 55-7-109 makes the hauler keep loose debris low in the bed and tied down.
Typical 2026 prices: $125 for a quarter trailer, $400 half, $600 three-quarters and $800 for a full 16-yard trailer. The transfer station tipping fee is $70 a ton ($80 with shingles), and it's already in our price.

Types of Construction Debris Removal We Handle
Most calls fall into one of five piles. Each one weighs something different, and each one ends up somewhere different.
Drywall Disposal
Old drywall is heavy for its size. EPA figures put it near 467 pounds per cubic yard, so a gutted bathroom can outweigh a load of couches. Residents doing their own work can drop small amounts at county sites under the DIY demolition rules. We take it wet or dry, in sheets or chunks, and sweep the dust. Trailer math: one bathroom's drywall is usually a quarter load.
Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel Debris
Cabinets, countertops, vanities, toilets, tile and the old sink. Cabinets in good shape are worth saving. The Knoxville Habitat for Humanity ReStore takes cabinets and building materials and resells them to fund Habitat homes, so we pull them out carefully when you plan to donate. Broken tile and laminate counters go to the landfill. Gone by lunch, most days.
Flooring and Carpet Debris
Carpet, pad, laminate, vinyl plank and old hardwood, once it's torn up. If you haul it yourself, the county wants carpet cut into 5 ft pieces. We take it rolled or loose. Some sites send carpet to carpet recycling, but EPA says only about 9% of old carpet and rugs got recycled in 2018. Honestly, most of it gets buried.
Lumber, Framing and Old Deck Boards
Studs, plywood, trim, fence pickets and deck boards, nails still in. Clean lumber can sometimes go to the ReStore. The rest goes to the Poplarview Demolition Landfill or the transfer station. We load it the way you'd pack a church van for a youth trip: long, heavy pieces low and forward, short scraps in the gaps, nothing loose on top.
Shingles, Brick and Concrete
These are the heavy ones. Concrete weighs about 860 pounds per cubic yard, nearly twice what drywall does, so a trailer fills by weight long before it fills by space. The City of Knoxville Transfer Station charges $80 a ton for loads with shingles and $70 for other debris. We quote these after seeing the pile. A few bags mixed into a remodel load are fine.
Construction Debris Removal Prices
Typical 2026 prices by how much of the trailer your debris fills. Heavy material is quoted on site.
| Load | Typical 2026 price | Usually fits |
|---|---|---|
| Quarter trailer | $125 | One bathroom's drywall and fixtures |
| Half trailer | $400 | A small kitchen tear-out |
| Three-quarter trailer | $600 | A kitchen plus flooring from two rooms |
| Full 16-yard trailer | $800 | A gutted basement or a whole-floor remodel |
| Shingles, brick or concrete | Quoted on site | Priced by weight |
For comparison, HomeAdvisor's national range for construction debris and shed removal is $100 to $800 a truckload. A roll-off dumpster averages about $380 a week, but you load it yourself.
Getting a Job Site Ready for Pickup
A little setup makes the pickup faster and keeps the price where we said it would be.
- Pile it in one spot: a driveway pile or a garage corner loads in half the time of debris spread through the house.
- Keep chemicals out: paint, solvents and adhesives go to the Knox County household hazardous waste site on Elm Street, not our trailer.
- Pull nails from keepers: anything going to the ReStore should be nail-free and in one piece.
- Tell us about stairs: a basement gut with a tight turn at the bottom takes more time than a ground-floor job.

More Remodel Debris Questions
Can You Pick Up Debris More Than Once During a Remodel?
Yes. A lot of small contractors book us for the tear-out, then again at the end for scraps and packaging. Each trip is priced by the trailer share it fills, starting at $125. We start at 6am, so a pickup can happen before your crew arrives and stays out of their way.
Is It Cheaper to Haul It Myself?
Sometimes, for a resident with a pickup and a free afternoon. Knox County convenience centers take DIY remodel debris from residents, one level pickup load a day, with lumber cut to 5 ft. Shingles, brick and concrete still need a paid site, and you do all the lifting yourself.
Construction Debris Removal FAQs
Do You Take Drywall?
Yes. Drywall disposal is one of our most common pickups, whether it's full sheets, scraps or broken chunks from a tear-out. It's heavy, about 467 pounds per cubic yard by EPA figures, so one bathroom's worth often fills a quarter of our trailer. That quarter load costs $125.
Can Contractors Use the Knox County Convenience Centers?
No. Knox County bans businesses, contractors and paid haulers from its seven convenience centers, and breaking the rules counts as illegal dumping with a $1,000 fine. The sites are on video. Contractor debris has to go to the transfer station or a landfill, which is where we take it.
Can You Haul Concrete or Shingles?
Yes, in reasonable amounts, priced by weight after we see it. Concrete weighs about 860 pounds per cubic yard, so it fills the trailer by weight long before it looks full. Shingle loads cost $80 a ton to dump at the City of Knoxville Transfer Station, versus $70 for other debris.
Knoxville Neighbors Say We Show Up, Say the Price and Sweep Up
