Furniture Removal in Knoxville, TN

Knoxville Elite Hauling & Junk Removal does furniture removal in Knoxville the easy way: you point, we carry. One couch or recliner takes about a quarter of our 16-yard trailer, which is $125, and you hear that price standing at the pile before anyone lifts a thing. Out the door.

Furniture Removal in Knoxville, From One Couch to a Full House

Most furniture we haul still works. It just doesn't fit anymore: the sofa that's too big for the new living room, or the dresser from a parent's house that nobody in the family has space for. Our crew carries it out from wherever it sits (an upstairs bedroom, a finished basement, the back porch), loads it and sorts it right on the trailer. Knoxville Elite Hauling provides couch, dresser and old furniture pickup to Knoxville and surrounding Tennessee cities, including Farragut, Maryville, Powell, Halls Crossroads, Karns, Alcoa and Lenoir City.

For furniture removal, Knoxville calls tend to come right before a move or right after a new couch shows up. If the bedroom set includes the mattress, our mattress removal page has that fee. A whole house of furniture, like a parent's place that's going on the market, is an estate cleanout, priced by the load. We carry plenty of oversized sectionals out of the newer subdivisions in Farragut, and more 1970s console stereos than you'd guess out of basements in Powell.

When to Call for Furniture Removal

Some furniture you can move with a friend and a pickup truck. Call us when one of these sounds like your situation:

  • The wall at the county site: the Knox County Convenience Centers take couches and tables free, but self-service unloading means you lift every piece over a wall about 4 feet high. Staff aren't allowed to help.
  • One trip a day: the one load per day limit is one level pickup bed per household. A living room set rarely fits in one.
  • The city's weekly cap: the City of Knoxville bulky waste pickup takes up to 5 items a week after a 311 call, so a full room can take weeks.
  • Stairs and turns: a sleeper sofa coming down two flights with a turn at the landing is a three-person carry.
  • A deadline: a closing date, a lease that ends Sunday, or a new couch arriving Friday.

Trailer math: one couch or recliner fills about a quarter of our 16-yard trailer, so it's $125. A full bedroom set is closer to half, $400. HomeAdvisor's single item prices put a couch or other piece of furniture at $80 to $400 nationally.

Types of Furniture Removal We Handle

Almost everything we carry out falls into one of these six groups. Tell us the piece and which floor it's on, and we'll know how many people to send.

Couch and Sofa Removal

Couch removal is the job we do most, and it's rarely hard. We pull the legs off (most screw out by hand), stand the sofa on end and walk it through the door with the frame padded so it doesn't take paint off the jamb. Sofa removal from a split-level usually means one turn at the half landing. Honestly, if your couch is clean with no rips, try KARM Stores first: they'll often pick up good furniture for free within a day or two. If they pass on it, we'll come get it.

Sectional, Recliner and Sleeper Sofa Removal

A sectional is really three or four small couches bolted together, so we unhook the brackets and carry each piece on its own. Sleeper sofas are the heavy ones. The fold-out steel frame inside loves to spring open halfway down the stairs, so we strap it shut before the first step. Power recliners get unplugged and the cords taped up. The steel mechanism inside a recliner goes to scrap metal, not the landfill. Two people, one dolly, no scraped walls.

Bedroom Furniture Removal

Dressers, chests, nightstands, headboards, bed frames, and the solid oak armoire that came up the stairs in 1985 and never planned to leave. Please empty the drawers first: a dresser full of clothes is a lot heavier, and drawers slide out mid-carry. We pull the drawers and carry the shell separately. Metal bed frames go to scrap. If the mattress and box spring are going too, each one has a $50 fee, which the mattress removal page explains.

Dining Tables, Hutches and China Cabinets

Solid wood tables, chairs, buffets, hutches and china cabinets are the pieces most likely to get a second life. We've dropped off a lot of glass-door hutches at the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Downtown West Boulevard, where sales help pay for Habitat homes. Glass shelves and doors come out first and ride wrapped in moving blankets.

Desks, Bookshelves and Entertainment Centers

Particleboard furniture (the flat-pack kind held together with little cam screws) falls apart if you look at it wrong, and nobody resells it after it's been moved twice. So desks, bookshelves and TV stands made of it usually go to the transfer station. Big solid wood entertainment centers from the tube-TV years often come apart to clear a door. For cubicles, conference tables and desks from a business, see office furniture removal; we can start as early as 6am.

Patio and Outdoor Furniture

Rusted patio sets, porch swings, glider rockers, faded plastic chairs and picnic tables gone soft. Metal frames go to the Knox County scrap metal area or a scrap yard, which keeps them out of the landfill. Rotted wood gets broken down so it rides flat. Trailer math: a six-piece aluminum patio set barely fills a corner of the trailer, so it usually rides along with a few other things inside the $125 quarter load.

Furniture Removal Cost in Knoxville

Here's what Knoxville customers typically pay in 2026. We price by how much trailer space the furniture fills. It works like buying mulch by the scoop at a garden center: you pay for the room it takes up, not for what it is. For comparison, the Knoxville junk removal average on HomeAdvisor is about $253 a job.

Furniture jobTypical 2026 priceWhat changes it
One couch, loveseat or recliner$125 (quarter trailer)Stairs, sleeper frame, tight doorways

How to Get Ready for Furniture Pickup

Ten minutes of prep makes the carry faster and easier on your floors and walls.

  • Empty drawers and shelves: loose drawers slide out on stairs, and we'd rather not haul off your winter sweaters.
  • Clear one path: move rugs, plants and shoes from the room to the door we'll use.
  • Tell us the stairs: two flights with a turn at the landing changes how many of us come.
  • Mark the keepers: a strip of painter's tape on anything staying is the easiest system we've found.
  • Unplug power recliners and lift chairs a day early so the cords hang free.

According to the EPA furniture waste figures, Americans threw out 12.1 million tons of furniture and furnishings in 2018, and about 9.68 million tons of it went into landfills. That number is why we sort every load. Keep, give, scrap, toss.

More Furniture Disposal Questions

Can You Take Just One Piece of Furniture?

Yes. One recliner or one dresser is a normal call for us, and it's priced as a quarter trailer load, $125. If you've got a few small things to add, like a box of old lamps or a broken kitchen chair, they usually fit in that same quarter load without changing the price.

Can You Get a Couch Down Narrow Stairs?

Almost always. We take off the legs and any loose back cushions, tip the couch on end and pivot it around the landing the way movers do. If a frame truly won't make the turn, we can cut the couch into pieces right there with your okay, since it's headed to the dump anyway. Two flights, one turn, no gouged drywall.

Furniture Removal FAQs

How Much Does Couch Removal Cost in Knoxville?

Couch removal in Knoxville usually costs $125 with us, because one couch or loveseat fills about a quarter of our 16-yard trailer. A sectional or sleeper sofa can push it toward half a load, which is $400. HomeAdvisor lists furniture pickup at $80 to $400 nationally, so a single couch here sits near the low end.

Will Anyone Pick Up Old Furniture for Free in Knoxville?

Sometimes. KARM will often pick up furniture in good condition for free, usually within one or two days, and the Knoxville Habitat for Humanity ReStore schedules pickups for large donations. Both turn down worn, stained or broken pieces. For those, the free route is driving it to a county center yourself; otherwise a hauler charges by the load.

Can I Take Furniture to the Knox County Convenience Center?

Yes, if you live in Knox County and can lift it. The seven county convenience centers accept couches, tables, chairs and bookshelves for free inside the daily limit of one level pickup bed. You unload it yourself over a wall about 4 feet high, and paid haulers can't use the centers at all. Check the convenience center hours too: they close Wednesdays and Sundays.

Do You Donate Furniture You Remove?

Yes, whenever a piece is clean and sturdy enough for someone to buy. Good furniture goes to the ReStore on Downtown West Boulevard, KARM or Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, which runs about 28 to 30 stores across East Tennessee. Broken pieces get split between scrap metal and the City of Knoxville Transfer Station. Ask, and we'll bring back a donation receipt for your taxes.

Do I Need to Take Furniture Apart Before You Come?

No. We bring the drill, the hex keys and the moving blankets, and we take apart beds, sectionals, cribs and tall bookcases on site. All we ask is that you empty drawers and shelves first, because loose contents add weight and slide out on the stairs.
